The third module of the first generation EU Mentorship Program was held in Ljubljana, 16-18. October 2019. The focus of the module was on the final version and publication of the "Reverse Progress Reports", presented by mentor Teresa Reiter (NEOS Austria), as well as on learning about lobbying, advocacy and networking.
The basics of lobbying and advocacy were learned from experienced lobbyist and political activist from the Netherlands, Jasmijn Touw (D66 Leiden). They then discussed the network of Southeast European liberal parties with the President of LIBSEEN, former parliamentarian and Slovenian defense minister, Roman Jakic.
This was followed by a visit to the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, where they talked with Deputy Director Sanja Ajanovic Hovnik about the reforms Slovenia has made to join the EU, as well as the challenges it faces today as a Member State.
The last day we spoke about the Union of Liberals and Democrats of Europe, as the most important European network of Liberal parties, with Treasurer ALDE Gasper Koprivsek.
The following activities were agreed with the project coordinator Jasmina Mršo, and with the participant Miomirka Melank, the appearance of the publication, ultimately called "Western Balkans - a chance for the EU: a liberal perspective on the accession process", which can be downloaded from this link.
